Edgar
was born in 1890 in King's Heath, Birmingham, Worcester, the son
of Francis (Frank), a photographic artist, and Lillian Ellen (nee Poynter).
Edgar's
WW1 service record has him enlisting in the Royal Army Medical Corps
(No. 72055) on the 12 Oct 1915. On his Attestation Papers he said he
had previously served in the 25th County of London. There is no
indication in his service records of when he served in the 25th, or
whether before or after the war started. Edgar was a photographer.
Remembrances by his granddaughter :- He
was a man of great principles and had said he could never kill another
human being. I imagine this is one of the reasons he joined the RAMC
possibly leaving the 25th County of London Battalion before they went
in to active service. I know he did make use of his skills as a
photographer in the RAMC as I remember him showing me gruesome x-ray
plates of shattered bones, presumably taken by him, when I was a child.
