Eric Leslie Theodore BREWIS


 
Eric was born in 1891 in Donnybrook, Ireland, the son of Edward Theodore Brewis, a Technical & Analytical Chemist (born York) and Annie (nee Clarkson, born Bromsgrove, Worc.).

In the 1911 census Eric is recorded as a Draughtsman (student evening) for Patent Agents.

Enlisted - 11 Dec 1915 - 3/25th County of London Cyclists. - No. 3018
             - 28 Dec 1915 - transferred to the 2/25th.
Discharged - 14 Apr 1916 - Not likely to become an efficient soldier on medical grounds.
Address - 31 Belgrave Rd, Leyton, Essex
Place of birth - Dublin [Medical History form]
Occupation - Patent Agents Asst. Draughtsman [Medical History form]

He was called up on the 2 May 1917, however his employer appealed on the grounds that he was an expert draugtsman who was engaged entirely on designing work for the newest types of aeroplanes. Also because he was previoulsy discharged on medical grounds. The call up was provisionally canceleld and he was later issued with a scheduled occupation certificate.
