Elimar was born in 1890 in Southwark [birth regn. Sept Q 1890 St. Saviour], the son of Joseph, a hairdreeser, and Johanna, who were both born in Germany. In the 1911 census and on his marriage in 1915 he is recorded occupation is  'Clerk'. Ellimar married Frances Rose Edden on 9 Sep 1915 in St. Paul's church, Clapham [marriage certificate]. He married a 2nd time in 1940 to Dorothy Alice Moss [marr. regn. SepQ 1940 Lambeth]. Ellimar died in 1959 [death regn. DecQ 1959 Westminster]. He left a will :-

WITKOWKI or WHITE Ellimar Karl August of 44 Holmdene Ave, London SE24. Died 13 Nov 1959 at Westminster Hospital. Administration London 6 Jan 1960 to Dorothy Alice Witkowski. Effects £294 12s.

It appears from the probate that the Witkowki family also used the alias White. There are name variations in the records. Ellimar's family are recorded as Witkowsky in the 1891 census, and incorrectly as Weiss in the 1911 census. Being from Germany the family was no doubt sensitive to their surname particuarly in and around WW1, as well as misunderstanding's because of Ellimar's parent's German accents.

Ellimar's British War Medal was sold on Ebay in November 2012.
