George Francis STUBBINGS

George was born on 12.09.1895 at 1 North Street, Marylebone, London, the son of George Henry Stubbings, an asphalt labourer, and Alice Catherine Stubbings (nee Moppett).

George enlisted in the 1/25th London Bn. and at some stage transferred to the Royal Engineers [Medal roll index card]. He seems to have served in Mesopotamia as per the medallions, and he served in the 3rd Afghan war in 1919 (India General Service Medal, Afghan clasp 1919).

His family believe that he stayed in the army until 1922 with the Royal Engineers. As he appears a bit older in the later photo, he may have remained in India with the R.E.'s later than the end of 1919 when most of the 25th Londons returned home.

George aged 19.

A later photo, apparently still in India.

My thanks to Paul Stubbings, the grandson, for the above photos and information.
