 Percy Claude CHISNALL



Percy Claude Chisnall was born in Aspley Guise, Bedfordshire in 1894. Second son of Edward T.S. Chisnall and Mary Ann Taylor.

He worked as a Clerk in London before enlisting with the 1/25th Cyclist Battalion London Regiment on 2nd November 1915. Regimental no.741172 "A" company.

He served in India. His Regimental Employment reads a) Drummer from Dec 1915 to Aug.1918 b) Bandsman from Feb 1919. Percy caught malaria and spent time in several army hospitals during his time in India. He was a member of "The Dagshai Entertainers".

Percy was disembodied 16th Jan 1920.

In 1924 Percy married Florence G. Randall . They had one child Molly Chisnall born 1931 ( Enfield).

Percy worked for the Civil Service from 1924 until his retirement. He held the position of "Comptroller of Stamps" at the Law Courts in London.

During WW2 he joined the Homeguard and was a "fire watcher" on Civil Service buildings in London. Also a member of the Homeguard Band "Y Zone" in Enfield.

He was a man of many talents. A leading member of the "Orpheus Amaturer Operatic Society" ( London ). A keen photographer all his life. He travelled to many places in England photographing interesting historical places / buildings. He also was something of an artist.

Percy passed away suddenly in May 1961 , a day or so after the last re-union he attended of the 1st/25th Regiment.
