25th County of London Cyclist Battalion
The London Regiment

Sydney Alfred LOFT

There is no medal card or any service record for Sydney. He must have served his time in the UK. Most likely in the 3/25th :-
'The photographer was based in Teignmouth, Devon, so given the date I think that Sydney must have been part of the 3rd/25th who became the 10th (Reserve) Battalion, The London Regiment in August 1916, as they were here from November 1916 until 2 May 1917 (see p 279 of the History)' [Russell Ridout]

Sydney was born in 1888  in Twickenham, Middlesex, the son of Alfred, a Licenced Victualler (George Hotel, Twickenham - 1901), and Mary Jane (nee Lyons).

In the 1911 census Sydney said he was a Corporation Clerk, Surveyor's Dept, Chelmsford Corporation.
In 1921 he appears in the London Gazette :-
29 Sep 1921 - After Open Competition - Clerical Class (Men)
4 Oct 1921 - Assignments to the Clerical Class - Ministry of Health.

In 1925 he married Gwendoline A. Catherwood in the Romford R.D.
