William Alfred Henry HEROD



William was born on the 12 May 1896 in Farringdon Road, London, the son of William Henry Herod, an electrical engineer, and Eve Wakelin. William was baptised at the age of 5 years on the 18 Sep 1901 at Stamford Hill St John, Vartry Road, Tottenham. (He was baptised at the same time as his sisters Florence age 7, and Ethel age 3 mths.) He married Kate Hewett in 1920 in Norfolk.

William joined the 25th London but later transferred to the Somerset Light Infantry, and then the Northumberland Fusiliers. He served in India and Mesopotamia.
William's older brother Arthur also joined the 25th.

After the war William moved to chard sommerset to manage a wood business then on to cork in Ireland before moving to Aberdeen Scotland to manage wood business John Flemming & son from where he retired. William passed away in 1972 in Aberdeen.
