Maj. Gen. Sir William George Lawrence BEYNON K.C.I.E., C.B., D.S.O.


Major General Sir William George Lawrence Beynon KCIE CB DSO was born in Agra, India in 1866, the son of William Henry Howell Beynon and Charlotte Lawrence. He married Edith Norah Petrie and died in 1955. They had 3 daughters.

He was our divisional Commander at Waziristan in 1917 and in the 3rd Afghan War in 1919. Originally from the Royal Sussex Regiment, which he joined in 1887, he transferred to the Indian Army two years later. He was a regular attendant at our reunion dinners till the outbreak of the last war. He died on the 19 Feb 1955 at age 88 and is survived by his widow and three daughters.
