There is no medal card or any service
record for Sydney. He must have served his time in the UK. Most
likely in the 3/25th :-
'The photographer was based in
Teignmouth, Devon, so given the date I think that Sydney must have
been part of the 3rd/25th who became the 10th (Reserve) Battalion,
The London Regiment in August 1916, as they were here from
November 1916 until 2 May 1917 (see p 279 of the History)' [Russell
Ridout]
Sydney was born in 1888
in Twickenham, Middlesex, the son of Alfred, a Licenced Victualler
(George Hotel, Twickenham - 1901), and Mary Jane (nee Lyons).
In the 1911 census Sydney said
he was a Corporation Clerk, Surveyor's Dept, Chelmsford
Corporation.
In 1921 he appears in the London Gazette :-
29 Sep 1921 - After Open Competition - Clerical Class (Men)
4 Oct 1921 - Assignments to the Clerical Class - Ministry of
Health.
In 1925 he married Gwendoline
A. Catherwood in the Romford R.D.
