Sidney Christian BERNHARD was born in 1897 in
Hammrsmith, London. He was the son of Christian Burmester
Bernhard, a commercial traveller, and Edith Mable (nee Adames).
He was baptised on the 26th Feb 1899 in Hammersmith. His mother
died in 1900.
Sidney married Queenie M. PERRIN in
Barnstaple R.D. in 1927. They had at least one child Alan C.
Bernhard in 1928.
Sidney died in 1965.
His pension
records confirm that he first enlisted with the 25th County of
London Cyclist Bn. on the 11 Dec 1915. He was transferred to the
2/19th London Bn. He was also attached to the 2/5 London Field
Ambulance in 1917. He served in Salonika and Egyptian
Expeditionary Force serving in Egypt, Palestine & Syria. He
contracted malaria in 1918.
